What is this?

Pair bonding is a term used to describe an intense emotional and social connection between two individuals in the context of a committed, mutually beneficial relationship. It is characterized by deep trust and respect, absolute loyalty and cooperation, shared social activities, and a willingness to sacrifice for one another’s benefit. It is theorized to give rise to monogamy in species such as humans, since it offers greater protection for individuals, their offspring, and allay potential threats more effectively compared to other mating strategies, and ultimately improves each individual’s chances of reproductive success.
